What alternative solutions besides amphetamines are there for kids that are A.D.H.D?

Resolved Question

What alternative solutions besides amphetamines are there for kids that are A.D.H.D?

My son is 6 years old and his mother just put him on ProCentra (dextroamphetamine). I am very avid about him NOT being on it because of the side effects and potential hazards such as stunted growth and sudden death.

  • Check out the benefits of fish oils. Garden of Life offers a fish oil supplement called "better brain" and it is geared to help with mental focus and alertness. Several different people I have talked to have used this product in addition to a healthy diet and have had very positive results with it.

Be sure your son is getting A LOT of fruits, veggies, nuts, fish, and healthy sources of protein. There are supplements you can introduce to him to be sure he is getting enough if offering fresh varieties is too difficult, but fresh is always best!!

  • There is no alternative solutions. Use normal drugs. Let him fight. Teach him chess, drawing, something he can focus. It can be funny ,like First person shooter games, playing an instrument or so. Its not very easy to fight with personality disorders..

  • I agree with you. Not only that it opens up a pathway in the brain to get him hooked on speed or meth later on life. The best thing might be a good diet free of chemicals. That is not easy this day and age of processed foods but I noticed with my daughter certain food dyes in candies would trigger a rapid reaction in negative behavior. There is a homeopathic remedy at health food stores called Calms Forte that is good for hyper kids, and good for adults too. Her teacher hinted that she had ADD when she was in first grade. I told her right out I wasn't putting her on drugs, she had seizures as an infant. She is doing OK now, going to school and isresearching physics and neuroscience this summer, working on her PhD.
  • You might want to look up on the Indian herb brahmi. Brahmi has been used for generations as a brain and nerve tonic.

Though in its preliminary stages, there have been research done on how the brahmi herb can be a cornerstone for future medications on ADD and ADHD.

Here is a good article on Brahmi Tea.
