Can fish oil or ginkgo Bilbao cause liver damage?

Fish oil is a food - comes from fish - it is Omega 3 and is natural.

Ginkgo is a herb and a lot more natural than drugs.

Drugs are foreign to the body. The liver has to process it and it is the toxic value of the drug that forces the body to do something it normally wouldn't. If it is the effect you seek (like dropping blood pressure) that is good, but it usually has other side effects.

  • Any vitamins could cause damage to the liver, since that filters what you put into your body. If the vitamin is of poor quality then this would be especially true.

Be sure, if you are taking a vitamin or fish oil product that they are pure and high quality. If the fish oil is pure and does not have a lot of additives to it then it should not contain a lot if any mercury.

Ginko Biloba would be the same story - you often get what you pay for with vitamins, so be sure it is processed and manufactured in a pure, high quality fashion - There are many many benefits of taking different vitamins and supplements, just be sure of what the ingredients are and what the supplier's process is in making the vitamins/supplements.

All vitamins and supplements can have a lot of garbage/fillers/binders added into them, making it harder for your body to process and providing more work for your liver to filter... just be aware of what you purchase and consume!

  • Fish oil can contain mercury, and often does, and since everything gets filtered through the liver I would guess it could do harm. Don't know about ginko biloba.
  • yes it can
