Yes you can take Nyquil to help you fall asleep even if you do not have a cold, however it's not recommended that you do so. The ingredient in Nyquil that actually helps you get a good night's sleep is alcohol. None of the other ingredients make you sleepy, they just help with your cold or flu symptoms. Instead of taking Nyquil, you could get the same results by drinking a half a glass of wine, champagne, or a half a can of beer, you would sleep just as good without all the side effects of the other medications in Nyquil. However, using alcohol to fall asleep can become very habit forming.

If you want a safe, natural, non habit forming way to fall asleep I recommend that you purchase Nature Made Sleep. It contains Melatonin which is essential to your body to get a good night's sleep along with Chamomile, L Theanine (the ingredient in turkey that makes you tired after Thanksgiving dinner), and other ingredients that will help you to get a good night's sleep. It works just as good as Nyquil without the alcohol or the side effects.

  • Yeah you can take it to fall asleep. I have done it many times out of desperation for a good night zzzz's. However, it can cause side effects if you abuse it. You can become dependent on it if you take it everyday and it's just unhealthy. You can wake up and still feel groggy. Be prepared to sleep 12 hours if you do take it. All in all it isn't a healthy alternative but it works.
  • Its not going to kill you, but it really isn't that great for making you sleep. They make stuff like Sominex for sleep aid or Tylenol PM. Benadryl would probably make you even sleepier than Nyquil. Of course, a warm bath an hour before bedtime and a glass of milk is also good for inducing sleep-ever try those? Keeping a regular bedtime and wake time, weekends included helps a lot of folks. some people have gotten help from melatonin as well, sold at drug stores or Wal-Mart.
  • Its not gonna hurt you, unless your allergic to something in it, have you ever taken it before? if so then this one night to help u sleep is ok. but if your taking it for sleep why dont u try tylenol pm or an over the counter sleep med? they are for sleep.
  • It would work ok, but you wouldn't need as high of a dose as you would with a cold. Why not just take a tylenol, it will do the same thing without all the extra chemicals.
  • Your gona be alll trippppenn on that dxmmmm

    Jk =) you'll be fine =)
