Omega 3 supplement dosage question?

Resolved Question

Omega 3 supplement dosage question?

Let's say you are supposed to take 2000 mg of omega 3 each day. Do you measure this from the mg listed as total fish oil in the pill or the mg of omega 3 specifically which is much less?

For example, the kind I bought has 1200mg fish oil per pill, but only 360mg Omega 3 fatty acids total. So, to get about 2000 mg per day do I take 2 pills or 6 pills?

EPA and DHA are types of omega-3 fatty acids found in fish. The others, such as ALA and ETA are found in some vegetable oils such as canola and flaxseed. So if you add the fish and vegetable oils, you want your omega-3 to add to 2000 mg. There are some side effects for taking too much omega-3, such as abdomen pain and if very high dosage, bleedings such as bruising and stroke. To be in the safe side, 2-4 pills should be enough, in your case 720 mg - 1440 mg of omega-3 from oils of fish a day.

  • You should have the right balance of all the Omega fatty acids. I would suggest taking the amounts as per the label.
