Questions about Pediatricians?

Resolved Question

Questions about Pediatricians?

Being a pediatrician is one of my options as a career. I love kids, but i hate dealing with A LOT of blood.. i have so many questions...

i want to be non specialized pediatrician, so no surgical thing to deal with right?

During medical school, do pediatricians also have to go through a lot of blood and surgical courses?

Is it true that ALL want-to-be doctors HAVE to go through bloody courses, and they have to hold internal parts of the body while they examine them?

What courses do pediatricians have to take during their time in school?
(please list as much as possible; in college and medical school specifically)

how much math is needed as a pediatrician?

About what age are you when you're finished with medical school and everything?

As a pediatrician, can you cut your hours short so u can go home and spend time with your family?

What would be the most challenging part about being a pediatrician?

what are premeds?

what are some examples of premed are there for a pediatrician?

thanks, i hope all my questions can be answered :]
I've researched a lot about pediatricians but i couldn't really find all the answers to my questions. thanks so much :]

If you do not like the sight of blood, do not go to medical school. You have years of training, approximately 12 years, before you ever even get to the specialty of pediatrics. You will take care of every type of person, illness, and injury in the world during your training.
Even being a pediatrician, you will deal with 'bloody things" such as lacerations that need sutures, broken bones, injections, you name it.
You will need a four year degree from college before you even apply to medical school, which will take another four years, then 5-7 years of internship, and 2 more years for specialty training.
Interns and residents work 80 hours per week and there is no time for anything else in those years. You need LOTS of math for medicine.
Once you are an established physician, you can work whatever hours you want, but will have to be on call sometimes too.
Premed is what they call it when you are studying to apply to a medical school.
What you really need to do is make an appointment with a career counselor or go visit a medical school and ask questions. You really need to know more than you do and they can help you.

  • It sounds like you need to look into becoming a Physician's assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
