What I discovered on the net about this flower that has a rich medicinal oil is this: Evening primrose oil is one of the most concentrated sources of gamma-linoleic acid (GLA). This is an essential fatty acid of the omega 6 variety carrying anti-inflammatory properties. This means that it is good to take if you suffer regularly from swollen feet, swollen hands, bloating, and water-retaining symptoms that are associated with menses and sprains. As the cite I reference below continues, I show this: The body converts the GLA in evening primrose oil into prostaglandins, substances that function like hormones and help to regulate body processes. Here is where i am concerned.

With my body at 43 already having suffered two miscarriages, an ovarian cyst not cancerous and no hysterectomy but endometrial damage from a synthetic birth control I was taking in the 90's, I caution young women about products even natural ones, as they are still unfamiliar with what goes on with their body.

Since cell membranes depend on GLA, the okay to take it stands accounted for, but this should not be needed everyday. Evening primrose oil is used for a variety of conditions, including skin problems, premenstrual symptoms and inflammation. Many women that suffer from premenstrual syndrome have low levels of GLA, which is why evening primrose oil supplements may help to alleviate symptoms of the condition.

I just say be careful even if it is natural and don't overload. Get a hormone panel done by your doctor to find out if such an herb is right for you, maybe wild yam or dong quai or lemon balm is far more appropriate. Every woman and every body is different. I made some suggestions for you after having done a bit of research and offering my info on this sort of thing. I hope i have helped. Also look into taking calcium for strong bones, as women we need the most.
