Yep, they are safe for kids to take...it would be darned difficult to have problems from taking too many probiotics (there is one unusual vaginal infection related to taking too many...and it typically occurs in people who have other immune problems....the treatment is to stop taking the probiotic...)

But if it is for a bladder problem in a child I would look for one that contains Lactobacilus Acidophilus AND bifidus Bifidum Infantus

Solaray, Solgar and Country Life all make probiotics for children that contain those strains...you probably also want one that contains a few billion as oppossed to millions...

Luckily, probiotics will take up residence in the urinary tract much more easily than the reproductive tract. Also - be aware that probiotics are Gram positive microbes - so certain antibiotics will do them in...

Any pharmacist will be able to help you with the antibiotic issue if you need further assistance.

Good Luck

  • Probiotics are perfectly safe to take every day for the rest of your life if you'd like. Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that live in the intestinal tract and other areas in the body, so they are perfectly safe and rather beneficial.

If you wanted to limit them to a certain timeframe, you could take them for a good 2-3 weeks after the symptoms stop, but it's very possible the symptoms may come back within a few months after you stop them (depending on what the cause of the problem is).
Ultimately, it's up to each person to decide how long they want to take various nutrients, but I hope that helps you in your decision!

[edit]: They are safe for children to use in the proper doses, yes. In fact, after any antibiotic regimen, they are recommended by most any holistic doctor for anyone from an infant to a senior and beyond. If you were using a good children's formula, then you could stop a month after the symptoms stop and they should be good for quite some time, but then just go back on them when the symptoms come back. Children can still take them daily just like they can with Yogurt, which also has Probiotics in it..

  • These are of dubious efficacy and it really depends on the individual. Try them but if you don't see any noticeable benefit after 3 weeks, discontinue use.
