Would it be beneficial for me to take probiotics after taking antibiotics?

Resolved Question

Would it be beneficial for me to take probiotics after taking antibiotics?

I have some Garden of Life Primal Defense Probiotics. Would it be a good idea to reculture my digestive system after taking antibiotics for pneumonia I had? Thanks for any help and suggestions you can give.

Probiotics are seriously overrated. There is only a small amount of scientifically questionable material that suggest they are helpful. The big question is, do we actual need to take them in the form of a pill or does our body manage fine without the help. The jury is still out on that issue. So if you have money to burn, go ahead and try it. If you are trying to tighten the belt then I would suggest you don't spend money on yet to be proven supplements.

  • Probiotics are a great way to re-build the healthy bacteria in your system and Garden of Life makes awesome products. Just follow the directions and your body will thank you.

If you plan on taking antibiotics in the future just be careful if you take probiotics at the same time. You need to follow certain guidelines like making sure you don't take them at the same time (take them at least 3 hours apart). Here's a link for you :)

  • Absolutely! Since antibiotics kill all of the bacteria, good and bad, you need to build up your system with the good bacteria again by taking probiotics. Otherwise you could be headed for a yeast infection or thrush. And next time you have to be on antibiotics, go ahead and get on the probiotics at the same time.
