Does this remedy work?

Resolved Question

Does this remedy work?

Don't laugh but, its common knowledge amongst my family that licking somebody's armpit (preferably a sweaty one) can help cure muscle aches and chronic fatigue.

Is there any truth to this?

I have heard of armpit licking as a fetish, but never as a remedy. I suppose one might get some salt and perhaps other minerals and depleted electrolytes from doing it, but I really think I have to put that one in the "old wives tale" category. I suggest that a more effective option would be to look instead for a good whole foods derived multi-nutrient product that would ensure optimum supplies of all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Some example include IntraMAX, Dr. Mercola's multi-vitamin plus product, or Pana-C 315.

Now, if only armpit sweat could be patented somehow and contained side effects that often led to other conditions which required still more patented medications, you would likely see someone like Merck present a number of "scientific" studies which proved its effectiveness and safety - just like they did for Vioxx, Avandia, Fosamax and Gardasil. And you would likely see W. T. and Dave vouching for it instead of using your question to take potshots at alternative medicine.

Note to Dave - it is good to see what your background is, although I would have guessed a different part of the anatomy. LOL!

  • There seems to be the same amount of evidence for it as there is for any other alternative medicine....

..therefore of course it's true! How can anyone possibly argue with the evidence of several generations of armpit lickers? Licking armpits is natural, holistic and free of Big Pharma poisons.

It would be more widespread if it were not for a Big Pharma conspiracy that suggests that licking armpits is gross, pointless and just a bit creepy.

    Hope I helped!

  • Ewww!!!!!!!!! NO, that will not work.

For chronic fatigue, try Rhodiola Rosea (siberian golden root), a decent multivitamin/mineral formula, iron, 5htp - take at night and the Rhodiola Rosea in the morning.

Cut out all junk food, excess sugar and drink plenty of plain fluids - water, fresh fruit juice. Avoid MSG and artificial additives. Cut down or cut out caffeine.

Make sure you're getting enough calcium and magnesium.

    Get enough sleep.
  • I suspect it may work on the same principle as "Eat a live toad first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you all day" or "How do you avoid worrying about your haircut? Drop a hammer on your toe".

No, I have to admit, mutual armpit licking was never part of my upbringing.
  • common knowledge amongst my family

see that's the gambit to the whole situation - your family, we don't know about your family. What you've shared with us is all we can decipher.

  • I dont recommend it but i think it refers to the body need for mierals, especially salt which can help to ease cramps, and muscle spasms.
  • Hihihihihi!

    None.

    Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Did someone, by chance, at anytime in your family try using salt with that?

Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha ha ha... ah ah huh...
  • No truth whatsoever. Although it's no more stupid than homeopathy or acupuncture. No less scientific either.
  • How about you go and try it and report your findings back here.
