Do you think conventional doctors take alternative treatments themselves, while dispensing regular meds?

Resolved Question

Do you think conventional doctors take alternative treatments themselves, while dispensing regular meds?

Absolutely! I've treated a few MDs. Furthermore, I know more than a few MDs who have begun to integrate some acupuncture and/or herbal medicine into their practices.

Those who suggest that herbs and "alternative medicine" don't work are either painting with strokes that are far too broad, or they're misinformed.

Naturopathic medicine is science-based. Period.
That's not the case for all things categorized as "alternative medicine" and there are absolutely a lot of quacks out there who espouse miraculous cures and defraud people. But using that as the basis to discredit ALL alternative medicine is a ridiculous overstatement and an error in logic. It's logically equivalent to saying, "Sunflowers have yellow petals. Sunflowers are flowers. Therefore, all flowers have yellow petals."

Are there people on the fringes of naturopathic medicine who step a little too far outside the box? Sure. There are good docs and bad docs - MDs and NDs alike.

Are there scammers who pretend to be something they're not and make fantastic or ridiculous claims, presenting significant risk to patients? Sure. Just like there are people who pretend to be MDs are arent. This is an illegal/fraudulent misrepresentation in both cases.

I treat MDs, and DO's in my office, including surgeons and anesthesiologists. I am an acupuncture physician who also uses several other natural treatments in my practice. I also treat LOTS of nurses.

  • I doubt it. I expect they use the ones that have some evidence to support them, but few doctors are gullible enough to believe in a treatment with no proof. They are trained to understand scientific theory and base the treatments they dispense on reliable evidence.
  • I think they use what science says works which, 999 out of 1,000, means not alternative "medicine."
