Are chinese Multivitamins safe?

Resolved Question

Are chinese Multivitamins safe?

My son has poor apetite and someone recommended a chinese multivitamins named HEALTHVIGOR HIGH POTENCY MULTIVITAMINS. It says that for children 1 year and above, 1/2 teaspoon 2x a day. I tried it and after a couple of weeks my son has increased apetite. My son increased his weight and im happy about it. He has been taking this multivitamins for about 4 months now. But just recently, i've read a blog on how chinese slimming pills can cause disastrous effects on you ( like cancer, liver problems etc.). I know that this is different with that because it's a multivitamins but I became worried still. No offense to anyone but we know that a lot of foods and goods from china are discovered harmful in one way or another. I am now paranoid because I keep on thinking that this may cause illness to my son if not now, in the future. I stopped giving him the vitamins now.

BTW, the label on the box is in chinese but there is also english instructions on the other side.
Here are the contents accdg. to the box:

Each 50ml Contains:

vitamin A 25,000 iu
Vitamin D3 5,000iu

according to the above link, the side affects of Cyproheptadine are as follows ~

Drowsiness
Dry mouth
Confusion
Ataxia
Weight gain

drowsiness, dry mouth, confusion, ataxia can all nutritionally be attributed to a deficiency in both vitamins B6 (pyridoxine) and vitamin B12 (cobalamin) which are part of the B complex of vitamins...... and both essential for the effective assimilation of iron...... it's washing out his B complex of vitamins which is a water soluble complex ... all in the name of weight gain........ i wouldn't give that stuff to my children ...... i wouldn't give it to anybody at all............ the B complex are essential for healthy neural, immune and digestive functioning..... vital for longlife and vitality.

ditch the tablets.

try to increase your sons appetite by giving more freshly prepared foods that are free of chemicals, processed sugar and other nasties they put in processed foods.

a deficiency in vitamin B3 (niacin) will manifest as a lack of appetite ~ have a look at the following link regarding vitamin B3 ~

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?pfrie…

other things that will destroy and wash out your B complex of vitamins are stress, antibiotics, laxatives and diuretics, a diet high in processed sugar, processed salt, animal protein, saturated fat, otc cold and flu meds and painkillers, alcohol, eating too much tinned food, eating too much frozen fruits and vegies, sodas, pop and soft drinks ..... caffeinated drinks such as coffee and tea will also rob you of your B vitamins.

if you choose to supplement with a B complex please do so as a whole complex and not supplement with any one of them individually as they all work best as a group.

it will always be easiest for your body to assimilate to get your vitamins from the whole food source though.

good health to you

  • SINCE WHEN IN CHINA ARE ANYTHING FROM THERE SAFE?
  • I am a big fan of Chinese medicine, but it is good to keep in mind that nothing from China is reliable as far as quality or safety. Sometimes a few brands are. Plum Flower is from China and is a pretty good company, but a lot of Chinese products in the past have been tainted. Sometimes entire classes of supplements will get the warning label even if they dont actually have it, but some of them really do. It is a reality that if you buy products from china there is a higher than average chance that they will be tainted.

    Minx gave you good advice.
