What is the deal with american medical!?

Resolved Question

What is the deal with american medical!?

Ok, im from England and everyone is entitled to free health care due to paying national insurance as a standard.
Are you seriously telling me, in america, if a poor man was to have a myocardial infraction that he would be thrown out on the streets,
or a 67 year old pensioner who develops a malignant tumour would be turned away?
What is the deal

Yeah, if they don't have insurance, they're turned away. It's a seriously f-ed up system, and even more f-ed up is that people are supporting it because they believe the rumors that Big Insurance is spreading. I totally support universal health care, especially because of swine flu concerns! If everyone has health care, everyone can be treated for any disease before it causes problems. If we keep free-market insurance, some uninsured guy could contract swine flu, come here, and keep spreading the disease because no one will help him! America is a crazy place, health-wise.

  • It's called patient dumping and it happens all the time in the good old USA. It's one of those dirty secrets that people don't talk about. And some people don't even know about it. But it is a huge issue. The bigger issue is the problem of dental care for poor people. Even the poorest of people, on government Medicaid insurance, have trouble finding any dental care. Sad but true.

    This is the worst case--

I put several more links below.

  • No, there are existing programs for the elderly (medicare) and the poor (medicaid), and all children (SCHIP). Plus anyone who goes to the emergency room of a hospital must be treated.
But there are about 12 million people who slip through the cracks. They make enough money that they don't qualify as "poor" by government standards, they are too young to be elderly and too old to be children. (There is a 40 million figure floating around but that includes illegal immigrants and people who qualify for existing programs but don't bother signing up.)
The other 288 million americans have the best health care in the world. We don't wait for treatments, we get the highest technology to use in our treatments.
