To become a doctor you will first do a four year Bachelor of Science, then take a three year medical degree. After the medical degree, you will spend a year interning in hospital in the various departments. After that you will apply to do a residency in whatever specialty you want.

During the three year MD and internship, you will discover what kind of medicine appeals to you the most. You don't have to decide which one until you are ready to apply for your residency.

  • It's great you want to be a doctor! Doctors that treat diabetics are called endocrinologist. They also specialize in thyroid disorders pituitary disorders etc. Doctors that treat people with asthma are called pulmonologist. Pulmonologist treat the majority of lung disorders. Specialist doctors require longer schooling than a general practitioner.
    Good luck!
