So are electronic cigarettes going to be banned by the FDA?

Resolved Question

So are electronic cigarettes going to be banned by the FDA?

I read that the FDA was trying to shut down electronic cigarettes with the reason being "it may lead non-smokers to then become nicotine addicts" even though they provide a more realistic path to quitting smoking altogether. The most recent information I've found about this was posted way back in April.

Due to the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act the FDA does not have the authority or legal ability to ban any cigarettes, smokeless tobacco products, cigars, pipe tobacco or roll-your-own tobacco products.

Right now no one knows if electronic cigarettes fall into the same category as traditional cigarettes. As for now, the FDA does not have the authority to ban electronic cigarettes. The FDA and the companies that sell and manufacture electronic cigarettes are constantly at war.

What we must understand is that the FDA is trying to protect its investments. The tobacco industries, and pharmaceutical companies profits are being protected by the FDA. Its all a numbers game, and if the FDA stands to lose its share, they are going to fight a dirty fight to keep their highest profits coming.

I don't think that electronic cigarettes will get banned by anyone due to its legitimate health benefits. Even a blind man could see through the FDA's ploy to stop a healthier America. Electronic Cigarettes are in no way marketed to non smokers any more then traditional cigarettes are. But the FDA has to say something to keep these products off the shelves. It's pathetic if you ask me.

  • Depending on what news source your reading there have been claims of the FDA wanting to investigate electronic cigarettes further for many different reasons, In my opinion this is insane, tobacco cigarettes are still being sold all over the world and it doe's not take the FDA or scientist to understand the benefits of electronic cigarettes.
The first thing I would suggest to to sign a petition in regards to this.

  • I think big cigarette companies are behind all this banning scare. The government (and probably the FDA as well) just seems very corrupt to me.
They will ban E-Cigarettes, but they will not ban Nicorette, which is basically the same thing, you just not inhale it.
You know how they said it is unsafe, bc a chemical is in there that is in it?
Here is what they did not tell you:

Propylene glycol is a chemical, that has been "Generally recognized as safe" by the FDA, for use in food, cosmetics and medicine.
Studies completed have shown propylene glycol inhalation may preventive pneumonia, influenza and other respiratory diseases.
However, an extreme over consumption in a very short period of time can be toxic, this is hardly possible if you use the E-Cigarette.

    Anyways, will they ban it?
    Probably.
The cigarette companies have loads of money and they do not want to lose their customers...
  • What is an electronic cigarette?
