Isn't mainstream medicine wonderful? During the time we have gone from the covered wagon to the space shuttle, vinyl records to MP4 players, the slide rule and abacus to super mini-computers, party line phones to cell and satelite phones, and black and white silent movie and flickering TV's with three channels to wall sized high definition plasma TVs with hundreds of channels, the best mainstream medicine - the highest funded scientific industry in the world by far - can do is produce patented unnatural compounds, synthetics and isolates with side-effects over 95% of the time.

Maybe THAT is why this section exists, instead of its use as a forum for all the naysayers who say nature has become quackery and such drugs are the ONLY way to go!

Note back to Gary: I wonder why the Abilify ads disclaimer lasts longer than the ad itself and death is mentioned three times? Oh yeah, it is another one of those "scientifcally" studied and approved "safe" mainstream drugs. You know, the ones that cause 140,000 deaths every year even when properly precribed and taken, and presumably when the patients are properly "assessed" by the AMA's own admission. Do you care to try to justify and explain away those figures?

  • any drug taken over a long period of time can damage your liver as the liver filters, waste and everything the body intakes. this is why long term high blood pressure patients must take a liver panel, liver screening test to insure the liver is still functioning properly. this is the same with any long term medication. call your pharmacist and ask for the medication info sheet on this med and read up about it, if you have further questions call the prescriber. proceed with caution.
  • It can cause inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) or pancreas (pancreatitis), but this relatively rare.

The risks are known because this is an evidence based medicine, which has been scientifically developed, studied and tested (Tony). Anything you take that has an effect will have side effects.

While its not for everybody, the benefits of Abilify outweigh the risks in most cases, and your doctor assess these risks. It is very effective in treating major depression when added to an antidepressant, and has improved the lives millions of people.

You should discuss any concerns with your doctor and do not stop taking it without consultation. Best wishes.

    Edit:
Tony, I did not say it is "approved safe". I made very clear there are risks. And if more risks show up, appropriate steps will be taken. That's how science works, it is self correcting. Unlike most alt med, which is unregulated and never even talks about risks. Do you warn people about the risks of things you promote, like colonic hydrotherapy, or colloidal silver?
  • My son is on this abilify and he is 12 yrs old and he has had these jerky motions and his stomach hurts 24/7 and we have even went to a surgeon to do tests for these but i see now that the problem may stem from this damn abilify. They also have him on bentrophine so he won't have jerks and trazadone so he can sleep as these meds make him wide awake ' and he always over heats and wakes up at 1 or 2 am with bad stomach pain s around his belly button and it's been so bad i had to carry my angel to the toilet. His granny my mom died and he tried wanted to kill his self and started hearing voices that said hurt someone when he was 7 and this new college mental health doc prescribed these and more medicines for him.We Had a camera down the throat and they seen nothing' but i know now he needs to get some drugs not so deadly' and the frickin doctor said his pains are probably from being lactose intolerant and he is not even as he eats and loves milk' ice cream cottage cheese and more' and never been sick 1 time.Who can i call or look up to find out about all his medicines as the college girl doctor said there was no where to do it; and now i see that was bull crap.I am so pzzed now as they're killing my son' and it is not happening..Thanks for letting me rant as i am so mad rite now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  • It can do but this is very rare. Millions of $ has been spent on the research and develoment of this drug, so much is known about it: http://www.abilify.com/pdf/pi.aspx

Obviously herbs and other scam medicines do not have so much research carried out so the death toll associated with these can only be guessed at.

Certainly the huge increase in longevity we enjoy now is down to advances in science, otherwise remote tribes that use herbs would live longer than we do!
