When air from a needle is injected?

Resolved Question

When air from a needle is injected?

What happens? Do you die instantley? Do you stop breathing or what? Basically I want to know what happens. What would happen to the doctor? What if it was suicide with a needle full of air? What happens once the air is in the blood? How long does it take to die? Can you stop it once it's been injected??

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

the air travels to your heart RAPIDLY and you die. i don't think you can do anything to stop it once it's injected. the doctor would definitely be sued for malpractice and most likely loose their liscense to practice.

  • Hmmm, pretty morbid questions there, are you contemplating murder? Can't say what would happen with a full syringe of air, but I know that if you get a little air during an I.V. its doesn't have a bad effect. In answer to your other questions, assisted suicide is still murder in most states, maybe all of them and it doesn't matter if its the doctor or a bystander. And I don't think you can 'uninject' something. Once it's in, it's in.
  • if its a small amount you are fine.

i used to worry about this as i have injections regularly.. sometimes there is a litte air, but it doesnt matter.

If there is a lot - like a whole syringe then i think it can be very dangerous.
  • nothing happens. it's a myth.

I took 8 tylenol pills at once?

Resolved Question

I took 8 tylenol pills at once?

extra strength and ended up falling asleep for a while is it bad that i did that, my neck was really sore and i had a really bad headache but now im feeling a lot better

why dont you like my name?

  • I'm sorry, but that was kind of stupid. For a sore neck and a bad headache, two would have been fine. Tylenol thins your blood, and is pretty harsh on your liver. It does relax you so falling asleep probably wasn't that bad, but like I said, the whole overdosing thing could have been. My bottle of off-brand Tylenol (It basically is Tylenol, just made by Safeway brand) says "In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Quick medical attention is critical for adults as well as for children even if you do not notice any signs or symptoms."

    Source(s):

  • I don't know if tylenol would make you sleepy in a normal dose, I've never taken 8 at a time. They do relax you so maybe that's why you slept but I wouldn't make a habit of taking so many at once, it's not good for your liver it has to filter that out of your blood.
Maybe try taking some maximum strength Aleve or Motrin for inflammation.
  • you should be fine but if you have any weird things happening to you, definitely contact poison control.
they say you can take 6-8 Tylenol pills everyday if spaced out properly. like if you take two every 4 hours or something. maybe read the back of the bottle to see what side affects they have.
  • That was bad for you. You should be fine but keep an eye out for side effects. Who knows what it did to your liver that you may be unaware of and who knows how long it will take to get completely out of your system? doing that more than once can add up, so just because you got away with it just now, doesn't mean you're immune.
  • ...Eh you should not have done that.
I was kind of an abuser of Vicodin.
And really when you take that many pills (depending on body mass) you make have managed to cause damage to your liver.

Which can lead to many other things.

    Source(s):

  • Well since you are still amongst the living I guess you will be alright. The only thing about taking so many at one time is the liver damage you could be causing. Make this the only time you try this one the next time you may not be as lucky.
  • remember Tylenol thins your blood... so if you are cut soon you probably wont be able to stop the bleeding and should head to the ER. But if you do not get cut I think you are good... but it is REALLY bad on your liver too
  • No, you should read the directions before using any medication and follow the instructions. One time isn't going to hurt you, but over a long period of time using excessive amounts can cause liver issues.
  • Don't do that ever again! Tylenol poisoning is a much more complicated problem for hospital emergency rooms than aspirin poisoning! Sheesh!
  • Just keep watch on how you're feeling, if something happens, or you feel worse than you did before, go check in with a doctor.
  • tylenol is bad for your liver! never take more than is recommended because it could cause liver damage or failure. if you have any odd symptoms later go see a Dr.
  • Can you say STUPID! You should have asked the question before you put your health in danger . you have risked liver and kidney damage.
  • You should be fine, but it is not wise to take that many at once. Tylenol is very hard on your liver.
  • As long as your not a half-pint you should be just fine. But for just a sore neck 2 would have worked.
  • u shouldnt take that much next time if you can go to the hospital because takeing tylenol can cause heart problem in long terms. so just be careful
  • This could seriously affect your liver. Get yourself checked NOW.
  • YOOOOOOOOUUURREEE GOOONNNA DIIIIEEE!!!
    CALL 991!
  • Lucked out next time you might not wake up, hope you weren't chasing them with alcohol!
  • Your stomach lining and liver will not be thanking you any time soon.
  • Karma is right. That stuff will kill you slowly.

Can someone help me build a plan of supplements and natural foods to increase immune health?

Resolved Question

Can someone help me build a plan of supplements and natural foods to increase immune health?

Fall is coming, and like many teenagers, I'm wary of the swine flu as well as the usual flu risk. I'm in healthy shape, but I'd like to make sure my defenses are top notch. After some research I've compiled a list of substances that will supposedly be beneficial. I was just wondering if it is best to get these from natural sources or if its safe to take supplements, in what dosages, and if a combination of these substances is safe. They include -

Vitamin D - Absorbed from sun exposure but is also found in fish and available in supplements.

Resveratrol - Most highly concentrated natural source is grape skins, but some recommend taking a supplement.

Quercetin - Naturally occurring in red grapes, apples, and onions but can be taken as a supplement.

Beta Glucan - Found in oats and grains.

N-Acetyl Cysteine - Available as a supplement, clinically proven to boost resistance to influenza.

Vitamins B6 and E

Last but not least, the most popular, Vitamin C.

Are all of these safe for a teenager to take daily? If they are, what are the safe recommended dosages, and in what forms should they be consumed, be it natural or supplement forms?

Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

None of those chemicals will stop you from catching a virus. If you are healthy and in good shape as you say, you can't do any more - you can't "boost" your immune system, that is a marketing gimmick only. You will only be wasting your money. Stick to a healthy diet and lifestyle, avoid sick people and crowds, and wash your hands.

You need to further your research.

  • ==>Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. They contain necessary vitamins to maintain the immune systems function.
==>Drink lots of water. Dehydration will inhibit the immune system.
==>Be sure to get plenty of zinc, which stimulates the immune system. The normal daily requirement is around 15 mg., but you can safely take up to 30 mg./day.
==>Selenium is a nutrient which plays an important role in the immune system. One way selenium performs this function is by "recharging" vitamins c and e, and coenzyme q-10. Good sources of selenium include eggs, turkey, mushrooms, tuna and other seafood.
==>A probiotic will fortify your intestinal flora, which are essential for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. This is a key factor to good health and a strong immune system.
==>Elderberry, a relative of blueberry, has been found to have powerful anti-viral properties. These anti-viral properties are partly due to the fact that elderberry inhibits neuraminidase, the enzyme used by the virus to spread infection to host cells. This is the action most anti-viral medicines take. However, elderberry has shown to have no side effects. A small study published five years ago showed that 93% of flu patients given extract were completely symptom-free within two days; those taking a placebo recovered in about six days. Elderberry has also show to powerfully increase the immune systems function. This is attributed to its hight content of flavonoids, which are antioxidants. Also, other compounds in elderberry, called anthocyanins, have an anti-inflammatory effect; this could explain the effect on aches, pains, and fever.
==>Red wine has been found to decrease the chances of contacting the flu by 20% in those who drink a glass of red wine daily. It is believed that this may be related to the vitamins and antioxidants, like resveratrol, present in red wine. Also, small amounts of alcohol may be beneficial. But if your under 18, don't use red wine.
==>Garlic has powerful anti-viral, antibiotic and anti-fungal properties and boosts the immune system in general. It also tends to kill parasites in the intestines.
==>Echinacea has a reputation as an immune booster, and research seems to validate this. A 2007 study by the university of connecticut combined findings from 14 previously-reported trials examining echinacea and concluded that echinacea can cut the chances of catching a cold by more than half, and shorten the duration of a cold by an average of 1.4 days.
==>Quercetin has not only been found to have extremely high antioxidant characteristics, but it has also been found to have immune boosting capabilities, particularly when under stress, and especially when taken with vitamin c. It is also anti-viral. Sources include skins of apples (red apples have the most), red or dark grapes, sun-dried raisons, broccoli, red onions, berries (particularly blueberries, cranberries, lingonberries), citrus fruits, cherries, pears, green tea, ginkgo biloba, grapefruit seeds, black tea, leafy vegetables and beans.
==>Andrographis is a herb, widely available in supplements, traditionally used to treat infections and diseases, often used before antibiotics. Andrographis is also reported to possess antihepatotoxic, antibiotic, antimalarial, antihepatitic, antiinflammatory, anti-snake venom, and antipyretic properties, besides its general use as an immunostimulant agent. It has even recently been proven to posses anti-hiv properties.
==>Coconut oil contains lauric acid which has been found to posses antiviral and anti bacterial properties and monolaurin (found in lauric acid) can destroy lipid-coated viruses such as influenza.
==>Goldenseal contains berberine which has been found to increases blood flow to the spleen and stimulate the activity of macrophages, white blood cells that are an important part of the immune system.
==>Licorice is a potent antiviral herb used against a wide range of viral agents. It contains eight antiviral compounds that all inhibit as well as block viruses from penetrating the bodies cells. This is similar to the action elderberry takes.
==>Avoid sugary foods. They decrease immune function for up to 5 hours.
==>Avoid cortisone. It depresses the immune system.
Honey contains vitamins and minerals which enhance the immune system. Raw honey is the best.
==>Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and immune stimulant. When taken internally, it may tent to thin blood.

I want to buy brewers yeast for my cat. Where can I buy that in London?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

In addition to being used for beer, deactivated brewer's yeast is often found labelled as "nutritional yeast" in grocery stores. It is important to make sure that you purchase an inactive form of yeast for a nutritional supplement, because active yeast will flourish in your intestines, potentially causing health problems.

Go to a health food shop or ask at your local pharmacy.

I don't think you can get them over-the-counter like that. However, St John's wort is a herbal antidepressant that you can buy from pharmacies without a prescription.

Stop smoking side effects?

Resolved Question

Stop smoking side effects?

I stopped smoking approximately 3 month ago with the patch nicoderm

I did follow the prescription by the book. I was smoking 2 to 3 packs a day
Those 3 months were hell and very slowly I am getting out of it but I feel better.
I feel also very depressed from and I was wondering if I could not take a herbal medicine to help me going through those phases because it is not easy.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

I have just quit smoking by using acupuncture. The chinese person that did it told me that it would take between 3-5 sessions and that I would soon feel better. I have these small seed things in my ear which are taped on and which I must press whenever I feel like a cigarette - you can feel it working when you press them. I can't describe the sensation, but it's like an immediate relaxation of your entire body and mind. You can also have acupuncture for stress and depression. I was sceptical at first, but it is working for me and clinical research shows the acupuncture works as well - not merely through the placebo effect either.

Since having the acupuncture I have felt relaxed, cheerful and more energetic. I am having no cravings and feel much better than when I quit cold turkey or with the nicotine inhalator.

Herbs to improve your mood include: 5htp and Rhodiola Rosea - I have taken both of these for 3 years now and they work very well. Take the 5htp at night and the RR in the morning.

Well done for quitting. It's really difficult to do.

Yes, well try to satisfy your cravins with something else you can ejoy such as tea, chocolate etc. lol okay thats a very inexperienced vague answer. But i do know cigarrettes come under the "stimulants" section of drugs, and therefore stimulate brain thought, body etc. Maybe you're missing these effects? Why don't you try coffee and see if you get the same "hit"? Good luck to you :)

Urinary tract infection or yeast?

so this all started when after had gone to some pool. I have really big urges to go to the bathroom but i only pee a few drop. I have a burning sensation on and off when i pee this is awful :/ and also I went to the doctors and it appear i dont have insurance anymore so he couldnt see me I am only 19 ive never had anything like this before i have done researcg online and its like i have itching sometimes and that would fall under a yeast infection... my question is what would happen if a yeast or uti dont go treated? and also what can u do to help treat it? i would appreciate any good answers please

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

You have a UTI.

First- there is an over the counter medication called Azo Standard that relieves the symptoms of a UTI. It gets rid of the burning and the urgency, but it does tint your urine bright orange. (It's harmless and temporary.)

To treat the infection, take Cranberry Concentrate Capsules and Garlic Capsules- 2 each, every four hours.
Drink copious amounts of water and urinate as frequently as you can.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugar- including fruit juices.
Rest as much as possible. You should notice a difference in 24 hours.
Keep taking the garlic capsules (decrease to 3x a day) for a week to ten days.

Other Answers (2)

  • It sounds like a UTI, and you can go to the ER if you do not have insurance, that is actually illegal. Yeast infections can be treated over the counter with Monistat and the likes, but you will need antibiotics for the UTI. You can purchase a pill called Azo to take the edge off of the pain, but it doesn't cure the infection.
  • yeast: yogurt helps, the natural active bacteria will help balance your PH

UTI: lots of fluids cranberry juice helps.

however, depending on how severe the infection is you most likely ned antibiotics. it helps clear the infection faster. you can get some over the counter meds. for yeast infections.
concerning your insurance problem: you can get Emergency Medical.

How does one cure a hangover?

Resolved Question

How does one cure a hangover?

Just wondering

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Water. When the liver converts alcohol into a substance that isn't poisonous it uses a lot of water and dehydrates the body. Drinking a glass of water between each alcoholic drink will prevent or lessen a hangover. Drinking water is the cure for a hangover you didn't prevent. Avoid aspirin and acetominephin, despite the fact that they help with the headache taking them will lengthen the hangover.

  • don't take Tylenol ! acetaminophen-based pills aren't good for you when you have alcohol in your system.

try drinking some water before you pass out (if you aren't too far gone to remember to do it).

I always drink some Gatorade and water when i get a hangover.
try eating some plain toast, or drinking juice. you just gotta find what works best for you.

    Source(s):

  • Like all problems, prevention is the best cure. Don't go to sleep with alcohol in your belly. Switch to ice water before you wind up the evening, how soon depends on how much you have consumed. If you don't, the next best thing is a lot of water asap. Also, you know your belly, it either needs acid or antacid, use something like lemonade or tums to treat.
  • The only cure for a hangover is not to get drunk in the first place. Seriously though, all those fast remedies truly do not work. The best thing for a hangover is laying on your back with a cold cloth or ice pack on your forehead, sleep and rest, along with plenty of Tylenol.
  • Yea.. I agree with William T. The best way to cure a hangover is to drink at least 8oz of water before you go to bed at night.

What are some meditation methods or other Eastern healing methods for post tramtic stress treatment?

Resolved Question

What are some meditation methods or other Eastern healing methods for post tramtic stress treatment?

I was seeing a therapist for about two years and me and her worked on a lot of my issues we think the last thing to be done is treating my post traumatic stress that she diagnosed me with a few months ago. Due to certain circumstances I can't see her anymore so now its up to me to deal with it on my own. Does anyone one any meditation methods affirmations that can help. Basically some things happened to me and now im really anxious / hyper-aware of my surroundings and I tend to talk fast because i wasnt listened to a lot in the past. I need to train my unconscious mind that the world is not out to get me and that ppl care about me and will listen to me now. Its kind of effecting my social life because driving a car is something ive never learned to do but Im getting more social (something that i worked on with my therapist) so its getting more and more the fact i dont have a car and cant drive. and sometimes i just talk way to fast i have to repeat myself numerous times for ppl to get me or they literally have to let to not talk so fast. Its nothing hindering but another thing i have because of my PTSD is i jump around loud noises.

Additional Details

the circumstance is that my dad was paying for my therapy but his buisness isnt doing too good so ive decided to not go to therapy anymore. he was the one that started brining me to her but i cant let him keep paying for the sessions even tho i cant either

A traditional buddhist meditation method is to breath in and out and focus only on your breathing. Close your eyes and count as you inhale and exhale up to eight and start again at one. Start by doing just 10minues and increase to an hour or so. The trick is not to let your mind drift on to other things around you. so if you find yourself thinking of other things or listening to noises around you - then refocus yourself on your breathing and continue on your breathing. This might seem simple enough but once you start it you will find that its not as easy as it seems. You'll be much more relaxed after.
Another method is walking. find a path - prob in your own back yard that goes in a circular motion and walk along it focusing only on your footsteps...
Good Luck.

Is colored cotton really bad to use for a castor oil pack?

Ok my boyfriend has lots of gastrointestional problems. I have been doing a lot of research on natural healing methods and I came a cross castor oil pack remedy. I accidentally used colored cotton shirts to make it. I just read that you are supposed to use white cotton or white flannel. I am worried I hurt him rather than helped him by not following the directions properly. Please tell me if any harm can come from using colored cotton.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

No, the dyed fabric won't hurt him, especially since I'm sure what you used is old shirts that have been washed many times. It doesn't have to be flannel, either, just works best to contain the oil. Most health food stores stock the undyed flannel in a handy size just for these castor oil packs.

HYDROXYZINE please give me an advice?

Hi everyone,
My doctor prescribed me hydroxyzine when I told him that I get nervous and super super shy in public and shake like the way you do when you drink a lot of coffee. I read the side effects of this medicine and I'm scared about taking it. My doctor told me to try this and see how it works. I'm under the age of 18. If you've taken this medicine before please give me an advice on what I should do. This medicine I heard is supposed to calm me down and relax a little.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Here is a website that will tell you kore about the drug:
http://www.drugs.com/hydroxyzine.html

when I took the drugs none of the side effects occoured for me, but everyone is different. I was perscribed it to reduce anxiety and I think it helped. I wouldn't worry about the side effects it mentions. I would try it out (as prescribed) and keep an open mind about it. If it doesn't work or you think your problems are getting worse; call your doctor and ask if you can try out a different drug.
Good luck :)

Is vinegar good for high blood pressure?

Resolved Question

Is vinegar good for high blood pressure?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

It can't hurt. However, you do know it's apple cider vinegar and not white? If you decide to use it, the best kind is the murky type, undiluted, natural and organic stuff. Raw is best. I mostly use it for nausea. About 1 to 2 teaspoons in a glass of water (don't take it without water, it burns and is gross that way!). With water it's refreshing.

  • No. It's known as a blood thinner, but it doesn't do anything for high blood pressure.

Salt is a killer when it comes to high blood pressure. Cut it out of your diet. You will get enough naturally occurring salt in foods as it is.

Drink lots of water, get lots of exercise (it lowers BP), cut out salt by elminating the following from your diet: added salt (table salt), and all foods that are pre-prepared, cured, canned, processed, pickled, frozen, packaged. Note that caffeine raises blood pressure as well and green tea contains caffeine.

Note that untreated high blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc. These are all serious. If you can't control high blood pressure with a change of diet and exercise, you need prescription medication.
  • Drinking Green Tea helps it.

  • Hi. That is a pretty serious condition, and i doubt that taking a supplement would help it in any way. I know 2 people that have it and they have to be on medication, or they become very ill. I wouldn't mess around with trying to cure it with vitamins.

Does adderall make you lose weight?

Resolved Question

Does adderall make you lose weight?

i have to start taking it for add
and everyone says that it makes you lose weight
and i hope it does cuz i'm trying to lose weight

and if it does
why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

It decreases your appetite so you don't eat as much and thus you lose weight. It also raises your heart rate which helps burn more calories. The problem is that you are losing weight in a very unhealthy way, as soon as you stop taking it your will eat more and your body will store a lot more calories and make you gain even more weight than you lost.

If you are taking it as prescribed, you will eventually get used to it and be able t eat normally. The problem is when kids and adults alike take high doses without a prescription and become addicted. As soon as they run out of money which happens fast because Adderall is expensive on the street they gain the weight back and have a whole lot of other problems from the addiction.

Basically, you will lose weight initially, them you will go back to normal.

  • it wont really have any weight loss affects if you are add.
adderall is a prescription drug that is abused by non-add people to get a speeding buzz.
so those people will see loss of appetite as a side effect when they cant eat from speeding. but seeing as you are add it will slow your add

In the grapes of wrath, how does the treatment of the family influences some of toms decisions?

Resolved Question

In the grapes of wrath, how does the treatment of the family influences some of toms decisions?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

When his little brother, Al, gets all defensive about having broken the touring car, Tom tells him to take a chill pill and stop being so self-conscious. When Noah tells Tom that he's going to leave the family, Tom tries to tell him it's a bad idea. When Winfield gets sick from eating too many peaches off of the tree, Tom knows exactly what is wrong with him.

Relaxation Tip????? Please help?

Resolved Question

Relaxation Tip????? Please help?

I have trouble falling asleep every night and i was wondering if anybody had any tips. Every night i have a routine. I also read and listen to music.

Lifestyle Changes: The following simple lifestyle changes can help you to more easily fall and remain asleep and are especially useful for treating insomnia.

Once you get in bed, avoid looking at your clock: Doing this will minimize the risk of worrying about how long it is taking you to fall asleep. Worry exacerbates insomnia and other sleep problems.

If you can't fall asleep, get out of bed: Insomnia is actually improved if, instead of remaining awake in bed, you get up and out of the bedroom to sit somewhere else until you start to feel sleepy. Listening to relaxing music or reading a book can help you relax. Once you start to feel drowsy, return to your bed. Repeat this process as often as is necessary.

Don't read or watch television in bed: Engaging in such activities in bed breaks the association your mind needs to have between being in bed and sleeping.

Exercise regularly: Regular exercise throughout the week makes restful sleep more possible. Ideally, you should exercise for 30 minutes at least three times each week. Avoid doing so too close to your bedtime, however, as this can actually make sleep more difficult.

Get in the habit of going to bed each night at the same time: Going to bed at the same time each night helps to program your mind that the hour you retire is meant for sleep. If you can do this for at least 21 nights in a row, a strong association between sleep and the time you retire will be formed in your mind, making restful sleep easier and more habitual.

Avoid spending time in bed when you do not want to sleep: Your bed should be for sleeping only. For other activities, such as reading and watching television, sit in a chair or couch, ideally in another room besides your bedroom.

  • Try reading something boring, like history. (just kidding). Here are a few thoughts:

You could try aromatherapy. Get yourself a diffuser and some lavender oil and see if that helps.

A natural supplement like melatonin might do the trick as well (it's all natural and you can find it at your local health food store or online).

Or, since you listen to music at night, why not rent or buy a meditation cd so you can learn to relax your muscles while you're in bed? Here's a few links for you:

  • I personally like this: http://bit.ly/rtMBh

I searched long and hard to find an all-natural sleep aid that combines the benefits of melatonin, passion flower (for relaxation), valerian root, and others for a great night's sleep without being drowsy in the morning.

I recommend it to my friends, and if you're lucky, a free trial may still be available.

Cheers to a good night's sleep!

I just quit Smokin weed now I'm very irritable?

Resolved Question

I just quit Smokin weed now I'm very irritable?

Ok I just quit smokin weed and am getting very irritable at the wife an dogs. I get like this every time I try to quit it does not get any better. I have severe anger issues and smokin weed helps keep me calm I don't want to start taking pills because of the side effects what can I do to make things better so I'm not biting my wife's head off all the time. Should I go back to smokin the Herbs or just be an asshole for the next twenty years? all answers appreciated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Dude just keep smoking. Weed is obviously a medicine for you, just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's not a medicine. You don't want to go and get stupid pills from the pharmaceutical company's (the same people that fight to keep weed illegal because they know it would put them out of business) and completely trash your liver.

  • If you got so much anger try learning a new instrument it will help calm you down. After a little while the irritation will go away. I've quit before about 4 years ago and found music to be spiritually healing.
  • Nothing wrong with smoking weed... keep smoking... F'uck the law. J/K.
Um, try exercising. It energizes you and takes your mind off of things. =)
